Death of one evil man won't rid world of risks from extremism
For almost 10 years, The Kansas City Star editorial board has been holding a prepared obituary for Osama bin Laden. It was updated on occasion as events warranted. Finally, the version crafted by former editorial board member Bill Tammeus, written on behalf of the board, may be published:
The death of Osama bin Laden means the end of an evil man, not the demise of the evil ideas that drove him.
Anticipation builds as Opening Day approaches
When Cliff Lee was traded to the Seattle Mariners in 2009, Phillies fans across the country were completely taken by surprise. This was the guy who posted one of the best postseason records in the history of the game and took us back to the World Series for the second consecutive year.
We traded the best pitcher in baseball for Roy Halladay -- the best pitcher in baseball -- but Lee was just such a great fit for this team and city.
Last week, Punxsutawney Phil paced the permafrosted fields of Gobbler’s Knob unable to find his shadow confirming that spring is just around the corner.
Although we have been skeptical of this groundhog’s clairvoyancy in the past, we can say, now, without hesitation, that his predictions are correct. Although the flowers have yet to bloom and the chilly weather is still upon us, something is springing to life in our college community; something is growing, and its roots lie in the newspaper you are holding.
